Alumni Spotlight: Megan Gray '19 Receives DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence from UR Medicine
Megan Gray '19 (Nursing) of Geneva received the DAISY Award for Nursing Excellence from UR Medicine Thompson Health nursing leadership on April 8. Known for her ability to connect with patients who have been hospitalized for extended periods of time, Gray, an RN, works at Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua. A fellow nurse nominated her for the award, citing her connection with a long-term hospital patient who required a little extra attention and TLC.
“She spent time talking with them to hear their complaints and feelings and helped them process the difficult decisions and thoughts they were dealing with," said the nominator. Gray also enlisted other hospital associates to color pictures for the patient and even brought in a small Christmas tree, complete with ornaments. “These little acts of kindness are prime examples of what an amazing nurse she is to all her patients,” wrote the nominator.
Gray received a certificate, a pin, and a hand-carved sculpture called A Healer’s Touch. As a DAISY recipient, she is also eligible for scholarships, discounts on certifications, and medical mission grants from The DAISY Foundation.
