Adjunct Professor of Choral Music Education; Director of Coro di Voci
Profile
Professor Kathleen Bawel holds two Master of Music degrees: one in Music Education and one in Music Theory, both from Ithaca College; she pursued post-graduate studies in Music Education at the University of South Florida; and she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Theory/History from SUNY Geneseo, where she also minored in Biology and Geography.
Prof. Bawel is the recipient of numerous honors, including a National Artist Teacher Fellowship, the Pinellas County Secondary Music Teacher of the Year Award, the Florida Music Demonstration Schools Award from the Florida Department of Education, and a Florida Brightest and Best Scholarship. She studied composition and conducting in Rome, Italy, with renowned American composer and conductor Z. Randall Stroope.
With an extensive career in public school music education and church ministry as a Minister of Music, Prof. Bawel has also served as Education Coordinator for The Florida Orchestra in Tampa, FL; as a member of the Editorial Board of Research Perspectives in Music Education (FMEA); and she has conducted choirs for main stage performances with artists such as Jay Leno, Susan Boyle, Dave Koz, Jon Anderson, and Foreigner.
She is thrilled to join the music faculty at Roberts Wesleyan University as Director of Coro di Voci, Adjunct Professor of Choral Music Education, and Choral Music Education Advisor.
