Assistant Professor of Nursing
Simulation & Experiential Learning
The School of Nursing invites candidates to apply for a full-time (11-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing faculty position beginning this Academic Year (2025-2026). The School of Nursing is housed on our park-like campus in Rochester, New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan and serene rural areas.

The School of Nursing is over 70 years old with traditional undergraduate prelicensure baccalaureate, RN to BS completion, three Masters of Science (Nurse Educator, Nursing Leadership and Administration, and Family Nurse Practitioner) with related Post-Masters Certificate programs.
This role serves as a key leader responsible for the direct oversight, development, and implementation of all simulation and campus laboratory activities within the School of Nursing. This role provides strategic direction for the Dorothy Whittingham Simulation Center, Margaret Rambo Skills Lab and related spaces, ensuring that all simulation-based, lab and clinical learning aligns with the curricula, accreditation standards, and the mission of the University. This person will manage the daily operations of the Center and lab, lead faculty development in simulation pedagogy, and serve as a resource for integrating innovative simulation technology into nursing and interprofessional education. This person will collaborate with the program directors and administrative professionals to support clinical learning.
Required qualifications include:
- Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or a related field; doctorate preferred.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in New York.
- Certification as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or the ability to obtain certification within two years of hire.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nursing education with a focus on simulation.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of simulation technology, including high-fidelity mannequins and audiovisual systems.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with grant management.

While the primary focus for faculty is teaching, effective faculty performance will also include service, profession-related activity, and scholarship.
Responsibilities include the following:
Simulation Program Leadership and Management
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Dorothy Whittingham Simulation Center consistent with that of the School of Nursing and the University.
- Oversee daily operations of the simulation labs, including scheduling, space allocation, and maintenance of all equipment and mannequins.
- Ensure that all simulation activities are consistent with accreditation standards (e.g., CCNE, INACSL).
- Collaborate with the Dean and program directors to integrate simulation into the Traditional and GPS nursing programs.
- Lead the development of new simulation scenarios and their implementation with faculty.
- In collaboration with leadership, develop a multi-year strategic plan for the Dorothy Whittingham Simulation Center, Margaret Rambo Skills Lab, and related spaces that aligns with the School of Nursing's mission.
Faculty and Staff Development
- Design and deliver professional development for faculty and simulation staff about simulation pedagogy, debriefing techniques, and the use of high-fidelity technology.
- Supervise and evaluate simulation center staff, fostering a healthy and productive work environment.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and orientation of staff and faculty with simulation and clinical teaching responsibilities.
- Actively participate in simulations as needed per faculty and program directors.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices in simulation education through attendance at conferences, professional development, and certification.
Fiscal/Budgetary Responsibilities
- Lead all capital planning initiatives, including a five-year budget for new equipment, facility upgrades, and technology, following a proactive model.
- Develop, implement, and analyze the annual budget for the Simulation Center that includes academic learning and rental usage.
- Manage the procurement and inventory of simulation equipment, supplies, and software.
- Collaborate with vendors to evaluate and acquire new technology, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources.
- Process invoices and maintain financial records for all simulation-related expenditures.
- Participate in identifying and securing external funding sources to support capital improvements.
Technology and Operations Management
- Formally implement and manage preventative maintenance protocols for high-fidelity simulators and lab equipment to ensure their longevity and reliability.
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships.
- Implement a tiered troubleshooting protocol to empower staff and reduce reliance on external vendor support, minimizing operational disruption.
- Conduct and maintain a comprehensive inventory of all simulation equipment and supplies as the data foundation for all future financial and strategic decisions.
- Oversee the management and maintenance of all audio-visual equipment, software, and high-fidelity mannequins.
- Collaborate with the university's IT department and external vendors to ensure seamless integration of simulation technology.
- Troubleshoot technical issues and implement efficient processes for equipment use and maintenance.
Communication and Collaboration
- Serve as the primary liaison between the School of Nursing and external partners regarding simulation-based learning.
- Lead meetings with simulation staff and report on program progress to the School of Nursing Leadership Team.
- Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and other stakeholders regarding simulation center policies and activities.
- Work with the Administrative Director, staff, and program directors to ensure a cohesive approach to all clinical learning.

The approved salary for this position is 62,000-63,500. Salary and rank are commensurate with education and experience.
