Lawrence Waite ‘63
Lawrence M. “Larry” Waite, 88, of Dewittville, passed away Nov. 9, 2025.
Born Aug. 7, 1937, in Stockton, the son of the late Ralph and Cora Harris Waite. He was a 1955 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and a 1956 graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester. Larry was employed as Superintendent of the NYS Armory in Jamestown for over 25 years and also served at the Olean Armory. He was also in partnership with his father Ralph, until Ralph’s death, and then continued to own and operate Lawrence M. Waite Excavating. In his younger years, he drove school bus for Cassadaga Valley, tractor trailer for Morris Miller Trucking and after retiring from the NYS Armory he returned to truck driving with the NEP Group out of Pittsburgh for 10 years.
Larry was a proud and dedicated member of the Jamestown Army National Guard, 127th Armor Regiment, Company B for 37 years. He was also a member of War Vets, Jamestown and the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association, Stockton. During his life, he enjoyed roller skating, playing roller hockey with the Jamestown Roller Hockey team, cruises with his wife and friends, tractor pulling, 25 years of “Snow Birding” to Central Florida and driving his ’57 Chevy golf cart.
He was the husband of 60 years to Janet Jaquith Waite who he married March 13, 1965; father of Vicki Waite of Erie, PA, Lorraine (Daniel) Thorsell of Mayville, Michelle (Steve) Gagnon and Heather Waite (James Haley) all of Ellington, Heidi Waite and Robert Waite of Jamestown; also survived by numerous grand and great-grandchildren. Brother of, Walter Waite of Cassadaga and Frank Waite of Binghamton.
Also survived by nieces and nephews including David Waite and the late Walter Waite, Jr. Larry’s family would like to thank the Visiting Nurses Association of Jamestown for the professional and loving care they provided.
